At Premier Care Pharmacy, we aim to provide safe and effective medication use. Pharmacist responsibilities include a range of care for patients, from dispensing medications to monitoring patient health and progress to optimize their response to medication therapies. The overall outcome is to ensure the well being of the patient and their improvement in quality of life.

Our day to day activities include:

Dispensing medication – This is a step by step process. Upon receipt, the prescription is carefully interpreted. Patient identity is confirmed, and appropriateness review is carried out with regards to age and gender of the patient, after which the medication is dispensed together with appropriate instructions.

Patient counseling – This is particularly important with regards to pediatric patients. We demonstrate the use of devices such as meter dose inhalers, spacers and baby masks. Where required, reconstitution and correct storage of medication is explained to the parent as well as correct use of the drug in order to achieve the expected benefit. A s brief medication history is taken prior to dispensing, particularly with regard to hypertensive and diabetic patients. Drugs dispensed to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are double checked prior to dispensing.

Stock taking and inventory control – The pharmacy department works hand in hand with procurement in order to maintain a steady quantity of drugs and ensure availability at all times. Fast moving drugs are taken into special consideration and expiry checks are carried out from time to time.

Interaction with other health care professionals The pharmacy team works closely with the nursing department as well as clinicians with regards to any queries related to drug dosing, administration. Where appropriate, interventions are made after the clinician’s approval has been obtained.
